The Taliban have taken control of Afghanistan. But who are they and how did they manage to take power so quickly?
The Taliban are an Islamist group who controlled Afghanistan from 1996-2001 when they were ousted by a military invasion led by the USA.
The US and allies invaded as they said the Taliban had been sheltering al-Queda before and after the 9/11 terror attack.
Before 2001 the Taliban imposed strict Sharia law requiring women to be fully covered when in public and enforcing their laws by public executions and amputations.
They say that they will govern differently this time but many are still worried life will return to how it was before 2001.
