Researchers found the fossils of three new species of early mammals in Wyoming, according to a study published Wednesday in the Journal of Systematic Palaeontology. These creatures are believed to have lived alongside the dinosaurs about 66 million years ago and thrived after they went extinct.

The newly discovered mammals – shown in the illustration above (left to right) – are Conacodon hettingeri, Miniconus jeanninae and Beornus honeyi.
